Around 200,000 students get admission in enrollment drive

PESHAWAR: Enrollment campaign of the Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) Department is in full swing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as over 200,000 children--128,464 boys and 72,502 girls--have been brought to schools in the first three weeks of the drive.
The enrollment drive was kicked off by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan at a ceremony held at the Government Higher Secondary School No 1 Cantt on September 10.

The latest figures released by the E&SE Department shows that so far 200,966 new students have been admitted in 25 districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Among them, Peshawar district is on the top with 27,670 new students followed by Swat and Mardan registering 26,241 and 18,521 students, respectively.


E&SE Secretary Joudat Ayaz said that the response of the parents to the enrollment drive is extremely encouraging."No doubt, primarily we are focused on enrolling maximum number of students, but at the same time we are committed to evolving a mechanism to put a halt on drop-outs" he said.

In this respect, he added, we would conduct comprehensive surveys to check the dropout rate of the students, especially of those registered in the ongoing enrolment drive.

The figures of the students enrolled in other districts are as: Lower Dir (11,903), Kohat (9,292), Dera Ismail Khan (8,634), Charsadda (8,600), Buner (8,087), Abbottabad (7,672), Upper Dir (6,548), Mansehra (6,479), Nowshera (6,407), Lakki Marwat (6,319), Haripur (6,095), Malakand (5,956), Bannu (5,702), Shangla (5,595), Swabi (5,334), Tank (4,536), Hangu (4,522), Karak (3,028), Chitral (2,930), Battgram (2,575), Tor Gher (1,201) and Kohistan (1,119).
