How Women Can Lodge Complaint on Sexual Harassment in Pakistan


Developing Asian countries where face financial constraints and lag behind the western countries in many respects face the bigger issues of crime rates. With various societal weaknesses including poverty, unemployment, unawareness, strict-established institutions criminal activities in the society are high. Sexual harassment is high in the countries like India and Pakistan. Everyday there happen several cases where women struggle for their justice. Unfortunately, in India and Pakistan, several women and young girls have lost their lives as victim of sexual harassment. Lately an incident appeared in the State of Uttar Pradesh where a young lady was harassed by six men in a bus. This incident had created unrest in the country and question on the role of the justice providing institutions. Pakistani government has taken an initiative against the act widely witnessed in our society. National Commission on the Status of Women of Pakistan (NCSW) has termed ‘sexual harassment’ as a crime.
Women on roads especially who are disturbed by the street men can lodge complain against them. According to article 509, they would be punished. Islam guides its followers to respect women but in the modern pacing society, the gender is usually ill-treated. So women can take action against the wrong doers without hesitating to fall prey to them.
