Jhagra says Nawaz will cooperate with KP govt

PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has assured the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of cooperation to address the issue of terrorism and maintain law and order in the province, a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said on Tuesday.

Talking to The News here, PML-N Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said the provincial government couldn’t absolve itself of its responsibility of maintaining law and order.

He said the prime minister during his recent visit to Peshawar assured the PTI leaders that the federal government would provide them assistance. He, however, said the PTI leaders would have to play their role in restoring peace in the troubled province.

Jhagra claimed the PML-N leaders were capable of overcoming challenges and pulling the country out of the prevailing crises.

He said the first 100 days of the PML-N government were successful as it paid Rs500 billion to reduce the duration of loadshedding and added 1700 megawatts to the national grid.

The PML-N leader said the federal government convened the All Parties Conference (APC) in an attempt to tackle the issue of terrorism. He said all the stakeholders called for seeking a viable solution to terrorism by holding parleys with the militants.

He said the federal government would assist the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and refrain from interfering in its affairs.

To a question about the growing uncertainty among PML-N workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Jhagra said no effort would be spared to solve the problems being faced by the workers as they have always rendered sacrifices for the cause of the party.

The PML-N leader said Pakistan had a lot of resources and his government would utilise them to make Pakistan an “Asian tiger”.

About his government’s failure to stop the drone attacks, Jhagra termed the first visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Pakistan meaningful and said he (John Kerry) had admitted that Pakistani government had taken up with him the issue of drone attacks. He said his party’s government would ensure that the country’s sovereignty was not violated.
