Karachi still London’s colony: Bilawal

KARACHI: Patron-in-chief of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Karachi is still a colony of London and his party will cut the kite that “flies through the telephone”.

He added that they would hunt the “lion” down and save the people of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from drowning in tsunami. In a burst of eloquence, Biawal claimed that his party would emerge victorious in the next general elections.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was speaking to emotionally-charged party activists and supporters who had gathered in Karsaz on Friday. The gathering was held to observe the sixth anniversary of the bomb attack on the homecoming rally of the party’s slain chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, in which 177 people were killed and hundreds of others were injured.

In an obvious reference to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the PPP chairman said: “We will hunt down the lion, rescue the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the tsunami and also save the inhabitants of Karachi by cutting the kite that is flying in the city through the phone.”

The political progeny went on to say that although Pakistan had gained independence in 1947, Karachi was still a colony of London. He maintained that Asif Ali Zardari would turn into a bow and he himself into an arrow in the next elections, defeating the rival political forces.

Bilawal also declared Jihad against religious extremists and vowed to make Sindh the PPP’s stronghold again.Paying rich tributes to the party’s activists for their sacrifices for the restoration of democracy in the country, he said the PPP was not a political party, but a passion.

He said the PPP would not have been defeated in the last general elections, but it preferred to protect the lives of its activists rather than fetching seats in the assemblies. “Terrorists and anti-democratic forces had threatened the party before the 2008 elections too, but they did not know that the PPP is not a party of cowards.”

Bilawal conceded that his party had been unable to completely eliminate the terrorists in Pakistan. “But we made it clear that we will fight against terrorists with courage and crippled them to a large extent.”

He added that the political parties, which were supported by terrorists, were now celebrating.“Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri had held the whole of Islamabad hostage but the PPP government handled the situation peacefully while the present regime failed to rescue the capital from a one-armed man,” he said referring to an incident in August this year wherein a lone gunman had created turmoil in the Red Zone area of Islamabad. “Even then, a PPP Jiyala saved Islamabad,” he pointed out, giving the party credit for the heroics of its leader, Zamurad Khan.

The PPP chief said Imran Khan had defended the terrorists even when they bombed a church in Peshawar.“I have sacrificed my childhood as my mother constantly kept struggling for restoring democracy in the country. I also lost my mother when she gave her life for the country. I will stand with you as an activist of the PPP and am ready to make more sacrifices.”

The PPP chairman wrapped up his speech with the slogan of “Jeay Bhutto, Jeay Benazir”.Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah also addressed the gathering. He said that Benazir Bhutto had set a unique example of courage and now Bilawal was following in her footsteps. Then he paid tributes to the party’s activists. Other PPP leaders, including Raza Rabbani, Sherry Rehman and Qadir Patel, were also present at the event.

Online adds: Meanwhile, Secretary Information PML-N, Mushahidullah Khan termed the speech of Bilawal Bhutto as kids’ speech.Speaking in reaction to the speech of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari here on Friday, the PML-N leader said that “Bilawal is our kid; first he should learn the ABC of politics and needs focus to restore his party.”

Mushahidullah asked Bilawal why the killers of his mother, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had not been arrested yet.He added what Bilawal said in his speech could only be done in video games not practically. Federal Minister for Information Pervez Rashid further said that Bilawal’s speech should be taken as merely a political speech and nothing else as in political speeches it happens that parties level allegations against each other.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Wasay Jalil said that Bilawal read the same speech what he read in elections. Wasay Jalil said that since 1988, no one could defeat the MQM.
