Petition wants Afghan DPs affairs of residence, businesses regulated

PESHAWAR: A petition was filed with the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday seeking directives to the government to regulate through proper laws the affairs of residence and business activity of the Afghan refugees living in Pakistan.

Muazzam Butt, a Supreme Court lawyer submitted a writ petition in the high court and requested the court to ask the federal and provincial governments and officials concerned under what law the Afghan refugees had acquired residences, shops almost in all markets and bazaars of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.

He submitted that the negligence of the government officials was malafide and it is due to the extensive bribery, corruption or influence over them. He submitted that Afghan refugees were so influential that they had cordial relations with top government officials.

“For sustainable economic violability in the business local, national and international markets of Pakistan, it would be in the national interest if legislation is carried out to regulate the affairs of residences, trade and business of Afghan refugees in Pakistan,” the petitioner submitted.
