Shemales seek protection

PESHAWAR: Members of Shemales Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter on Thursday requested the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government and Peshawar High Court chief justice to provide them protection as they were facing threats to their lives.

Speaking at a press conference, Association Provincial President Farzana alleged that a few bullies beat her up in presence of the station house officer of the Gulbahar Police Station. She said she asked the SHO to take action against the accused and register the case against them, but he did not entertain the request.

She said angered by this partial attitude of the local police, several members of the Shemales Association protested at Gulbahar on the Grand Trunk Road. But the police used batons to force the protesting shemales to end the protest. “Several members of our community were injured in the baton charge and the medical reports at the Lady Reading Hospital is a proof of that,” said Farzana while narrating the incident.

The office-bearers of the Shemales Association said they met the deputy commissioner and take up the issue with him, but he only held out a verbal assurance but did not take any practical step for their protection.Farzana said some elements in the locality they were living in staged a protest against them on Thursday .
