Unresolved: Former IGPs Ghani, Yamin made party to murder case

PESHAWAR: Former Islamabad IGP Bin Yamin, former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa IGP Ihsan Ghani and 10 other officers were made party to Yamin’s daughter-in-law’s murder case by a magistrate’s court on Monday. Waheeda was found dead on May 19 at her brother Khalid’s house in University Town with little to explain the cause of death. On July 24, an inquiry committee concluded she did not commit suicide but died of suffocation.

On July 10, University Town police registered an FIR nominating Waheeda’s brother and sister-in-law in the alleged murder on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP). After Waheeda’s father approached the SCP, it further ordered the inclusion of these 12 police officers to the same FIR. However, the incident report filed against the officers was based on different charges and was quashed on Monday.

The 10 others nominated are Peshawar SSP Operations Imran Shahid, Cantt SP Faisal Kamran, Town ASP Umer Farooq, Town SHO Sardar Hussain, Town Investigation Officer Rizwanullah, Islamabad SSP Yasin Farooq, Saddar Zone Islamabad SP Jamil Hashmi, Margala DSP Rashid Niazi, Shalimar SHO Sajjad Haider and SI Rashid Ahmad.

On September 29, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan dismissed the bail petition of Khalid. However, his wife Fauzia was granted bail on two sureties worth Rs600, 000 each.

The case was registered on the complaint of Zahida, the deceased’s mother. She accused her husband, a local businessman, Darya Khan Bangash, her son Khalid and her daughter-in-law Fauzia of murdering Waheeda. Zahida suspected her daughter had not died of natural causes and was in fact killed by the suspects.
