SWABI: Local PML-N leaders have welcomed the appointment of Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, saying that he would deliver according to the expectations of party workers and people of the province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders told Dawn here that the failure of the party to grab the required number of seats for formation of government in the province in May 2013 general elections had resulted in a disturbed scenario for them not only in the district, but across the province and tribal belt.
They said that if the party wanted to survive in the prevailing political scenario it would have to meet the people’s demands while fulfilling the promises made during the elections.
Shiraz Khan, the only PML-N MPA from Swabi, said that Sardar Mehtab was the most experienced and senior politician and well aware of the party position. “We expect that he would deliver according to the expectations of party workers,” he said.
Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, PML-N district president, said that the new governor was expected to rejuvenate the league in KP and Fata. He said that the governor was also expected to play a greater role in the restoration of peace in the tribal belt.
Dildar Khan, district general secretary of the party, said that Sardar Mehtab’s stint as governor would be a turning point for both the party and peace process. Liaqat Ahmad Khan, former president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and leader of PML-N, said that the governor should take extraordinary steps for restoration of peace because it was a prerequisite for economic progress and prosperity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.
LOAD-SHEDDING: With the start of summer the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has also increased duration of power load shedding.
People belonging to different regions said that earlier there would be power loadshedding of one hour after supply of electricity for every two hours, but now the reverse is happening i.e, two hours load shedding after supply of one hour each time.
