Amount allocated for security of polio teams: advisor

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government Monday allocated Rs40 million to recruit volunteers to ensure protection and security to the workers of the anti-polio teams so that they could perform their duty with peace of mind.
Speaking at a news conference, advisor to chief minister on media Shiraz Paracha said the funds would be utilised to pay salaries and other incentives to the volunteers. He said the polio workers would raise awareness among people about dengue fever and its prevention from 2014. He said Pakistan ranked among the three nations across the world where children still got infected with the virus. “We should get rid of the virus or else the foreign countries would impose ban on the entry of our citizens to their countries and we will not be able to travel to other states,” he added.
The adviser said the government was considering increasing the honorarium of the anti-polio workers and a strategy was being worked out to prevent acts of subversion against the polio workers and officials.
He said soon after Eidul Azha, a delegation comprising provincial ministers and seasoned bureaucrats, headed by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, would hold a meeting with PM Nawaz Sharif and Minister for Water and Power Khwaja Asif to address the reservations of the provincial government regarding the electricity.
