Jashn-e-Chitral comes to an end

PESHAWAR: The sports festival Jashn-e-Chitral, which aimed to revive and promote the indigenous sports at the district level, concluded on Thursday.

The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) sponsored the 10-day sporting festival, according to the organisation’s statement. Local district administration and Chitral Scouts managed the event. During the inauguration the Chitral Scouts, the police and border police of Chitral presented a parade along with singing of the national anthem by the students of different schools. The ceremony also included a polo match and tug-of-war, which attracted lots of visitors, including tourists.

Jashn-e-Chitral 2013 was themed “Dare to achieve your desired destination,” according to TCKP statement. The event included polo matches, football, cricket, volleyball, tug-of-war, buzkashi, buddi dik, horse race, mountain race, paragliding, arrow throwing, stone-throwing, donkey polo, cultural show, chess, marathon race, local wrestling and many more games. Speaking at the concluding ceremony TCKP Managing Director Tarik Jamil said that due to the postponement of Shandur Polo Festival owing to floods, it was decided to hold an event in Chitral.
