Pension system to be computerised

Thursday, October 10, 2013 - A high level meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance, Sirajul Haq here Wednesday decided to computerize pension system with an objective to facilitate pensioners of the province. The meeting among other was attended by Secretary Finance and Director General Project to Improve Finance Reporting & Auditing (PIFRA).


Briefing the meeting, Director General PIFRA said that roundabout Rs 24 billion was being distributed annually among the 170,000 pensioners of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.


He highlighted the need to computerize pension system to resolve the problems faced by pensioners and said that it should be attached with NADRA besides introducing smart-card and bio-metric system.
The meeting was told that PIFRA is being run with the collaboration of World Bank and government of Pakistan. It was said that concerted efforts are needed to develop the system which is the sole responsibility of PIFRA.

Participants of the meeting also stressed for ending the outdated system of pension book and cheque besides improving the direct credit system in all districts.

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Minister appreciated the efforts of concerned authorities on the issue, adding it would also address injustice and malfeasance in pension system. He also urged media and relative authorities to highlight the hurdles affecting the implementations of the system.
