Ruthless action against corrupt officials on the cards

Monday, October 14, 2013 - Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in its bid to end corruption from government departments has initiated inter offices inquiries to take strict disciplinary action against the corrupt officials. According to a report about reforms being introduced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for improving working of official departments, a list of corrupt officials is also being prepared which will be sent to the proposed Ehtesab Commission to be set up after passage of the bill from provincial assembly.

The report discloses that a list of bad officials in Public Health Engineering department has been prepared including seven names, while in Environment department, the list of bad officialscontains names of 120 officials mostly belonging to Forest. Similarly, in Zakat and Usher department, vigilance committees have been constituted with the task of pin point corruptofficials. A committee has been constituted in Law and Parliamentary Affairs department to initiate action against officials of bad reputation. Presently seven officials of P&HE department have been found allegedly involved in corrupt practices and departmental inquiries have been initiated against them, reads the report. While presenting the reforms report, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak told journalists that a ruthless action would be taken against corrupt officials as zero tolerance would be shown against corruption and corruption practices.

He said it was an understood fact that construction work was not up to the standard due to com-mission mafias in government departments as a lot of funds were spent in filling the pockets of such officials. He said no where in the world government departments were involved inconstruction of official buildings and this practice needed to be ended for ensuring transparency in the implementation of projects.

It time for bringing change in governance system and for this purpose people have mandated Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf in KP, he remarked. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had taken numerous measures to bring reforms in governance system ensuring transparency, end to corruption, malpractices and adherence to discipline.
