UK delegation praises KP govt’s reforms agenda

PESHAWAR: A British delegation Thursday appreciated the reforms agenda and the efforts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for resolving the basic problems of the people and assured it of full technical and financial support and increasing the volume of the trade. The delegation of Department of International Development (DFID) led by British Senior Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Minister for Faith and Communities at the Department for Communities and Local Government, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and Islamabad based British Deputy High Commissioner Alison Blake called on the Chief Minister Parvez Khattak and PTI Chairman Imran Khan at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House Islamabad. The members of the delegation exchanged views on a wide range of topics with the PTI chairman and KP chief minister, particularly the damage done by continuous terrorist activities during the last over 10 years and the efforts of the PTI led government to improve the situation. The members of the delegation particularly appreciated the Strategic Development Partnership Framework signed by such a large number of international donor agencies and the provincial government which brings all of them on the same page for addressing the problem of the rehabilitation, repair, reconstruction and development of the province. The PTI leaders and the chief minister briefed the delegation in detail about their agenda of change and their efforts to ameliorate the lot of the people.They briefed the delegation about the problems of the general masses in detail and the avenues of both foreign assistance as well as investment particularly education and the power sectors. With regard to terrorism, the delegation was informed that the people of the province had a history of communal harmony and when a church was attacked by the terrorist last week, the people from all walks of life rushed to the spot and offered every help. The members of the delegation were also briefed about the avenues of development of tourism industry in the province. The PTI chairman said they would also develop local tourism so that healthy recreational facilities were provided to the masses. However, he said that at the moment education and social sector reforms were on the top of their agenda.
