Legislation process to be made more effective: NA Speaker Ayaz

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday vowed to make the legislation process more effective to protect the rights of women, children and minorities.

Addressing a news conference after the Speakers Conference along with the speakers of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and a representative of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa he said the conference was aimed at promoting harmony and friendship among the provinces.

He also announced that parliamentary subject would be included in the syllabus of universities and college, and the Higher Education Commission had been asked to include Parliamentary Studies in the syllabus so that people who wanted to come in politics and desired to get jobs in assemblies should know how Parliament can run its affairs."

He said the Conference also reviewed the idea of establishing a separate TV channel of the parliament. Ayaz said that he promoted ideas of mutual tolerance and respect to strengthen the democracy in the country. He termed the transition of power from one elected government to other a milestone in the history of the country.

He believed that respecting the each other mandate not only strengthened the democratic process but it also raised the prestige of the country internationally. He singled out terrorism and sectarianism the two grave issues confronting the nation that had made the dream of a peaceful Pakistan unfulfilled so far.

Talking to 18th amendment, he said it not only empowered the provinces to do legislation but also lies the duty upon them to improve the situation in health, education and other social sectors. He resolved to carryout the legislation by better coordination between the national assembly and provincial assemblies and would learnt from each other's experiments. He also spoke the austerity measures taken to national assembly and told the media that it started from speaker chamber by undertaking the pre-audit exercise.

He said that speaker's ruling can't be challenged in any court and said that speaker would not become party in any extra constitutional step in the country. He said that all the institutions are working within the ambit of the constitution and believed that continuity in the democratic process would strengthen the working of National assembly.

The Islamabad Declaration issued after the conference says the parliament will be made a sovereign institution in accordance with the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
