Chitral: The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sponsored a fun filled sports event i.e Jashn-e-Chitral from 1st indigenous sports at the district level. The event was managed by the Deputy Administration Chitral and Chitral Scouts. During the inauguration the Chitral Scouts, the Police and Border police of Chitral presented the parade along with the national anthem by the students of different schools.
The ceremony also consisted of a Polo match and tug of war which attracted lots of visitors from different walks of life which included: local administration, civil society, NGOs and general tourists. Jashn-e-Chitral 2013 was themed "Dare to achieve your desired destination". The event included Polo matches, Football, Cricket, Volley Ball, Tug of War, Buz Kashi, Buddi Dik, Horse Race, Mountain Race, Para Gliding, Arrow Throwing, Stone Throwing, Donkey Polo, Cultural Show, Chess, Marathon Race, Local Wresting and many more games.
The event also included Paragliding and other unique activities for the recreation of the participants and spectators both. A Polo match was played between the arch rival polo teams of Gilgit Baltistan team and Chitral. The teams performed to the tunes of flute and traditional Gilgit Polo Band. This was greatly appreciated by all the spectators.
Many people were unhappy because for the first time in many years Shandur Polo Festival was cancelled due to the natural calamity- flood, which disrupted many roads between Chitral and Gilgit due to which the event had to be postponed and later due to the weather it was cancelled.
This event Jash-e-Chitral gave them the opportunity to witness the mightiest teams of Chitral and Gilgit Baltistan battle it out at not in Shandur but at Chitral. The team of Chitral won the match with total 12 goals and 1 goal of Gilgit Baltistan team. The Managing Director TCKP, Mr. Tarik Jamil stated in this regard that "Due to the postponement of Shandur Polo Festival owing to floods, it was decided to hold an event in Chitral. This is a very unique event which includes all the major sports that are played in Pakistan." He also said that "holding of Jashn-e-Chitral is a service of tourism promotional activities, initiated by TCKP and District Administration Chitral at the behest of the present provincial government for the promotional of tourism in the region."
The MD TCKP further stated "indigenous games like tug of war, stone throwing, pool throwing and Buz Kashi are becoming very rare and that's why it was decided to revive and promote them, competitions have been held among different teams to revive these games especially."
October to 10th October 2013. Its main purpose was to revive and promote the The chief guests for the closing ceremony were Mr Sheryar Afridi(MNA) and Mr. ShezadaIftikhar uddin (MNA). They distributed the prizes among the participants and appreciated the event immensely. They suggested that such sporting events should be held more often to promote team play, harmony and level of competition among the players.
