KP govt urged to declare education emergency

PESHAWAR: Speakers at a workshop have urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to declare education emergency and ensure provision of education to all children in the province.

The workshop was arranged by Khwendo Kor, a civil society organisation, at a local hotel here on Wednesday and attended by people from different walks of life.

About implementation of the relevant laws, the planning and development department official Sher Daraz Khan said that the government should ensure provision of all facilities to ensure enrolment of maximum number of children in schools.

ActionAid representative Alia Rasheed said that literacy rate could be enhanced only if the government implemented Article 25A so that parents would be compelled to bring their children to schools.

Sparc regional head Jehanzeb Khan, Child Rights Movement coordinator Izazuddin and Save the Children representative Adnan Sajid asked the government to increase education budget.
