Tuesday, October 08, 2013 - Peshawar: The newly elected Chairperson Provincial Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ms Neelum Toru Monday took charge of the commission here at a ceremony. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department Dr Mehr Taj Roghani said this is a proud occasion today that the formal handing over of the Commission by the former Chairperson Ms. Zubeida Khatoon is to the new Chairperson Ms. Neelum Toru taking place.
She said that we have tried to build a strong team bringing in three female Members of Provincial Assembly from coalition parties, social and development activists, women from media and academia and business having people from relevant background. The Commission shall effectively deliver on its given mandate and promised support where needed, she expressed the hope.
Ms. Zubeida Khatoon, the former Chairperson on the occasion said she is very happy and honored to have been given this opportunity to come and share her experiences from the first term and said that she expected that the new Commission will take forward and build on the work done in the first term. She said she was very happy about the team selected and hoped that they would work in a team spirit to take forward the mandate given to the Commission including review of the existing legislation, propose amendments and new legislation.
